About Us

Our history has a peculiar anchorage to the Sienese territory. Thanks to the work of Achille Sclavo, since the early 1900s, Siena saw the development of life sciences in a continuous growing path that allowed the city becoming one of the “capitals” of the vaccinology world. The University of Siena has worked for years on the importance of the Sclavo legacy, by cataloging the archival storage and the company artefacts recovered by the Gruppo Anziani Sclavo. It has also scientifically overseen a project and used a significant part of the materials, kindly granted by the Group itself, which has later become the historical section of the Siena Vaccines Science Centre.

In order to save the Sclavo legacy, GSK has decided to make the Science Center accessible also to external visitors: a journey that combines historical materials, virtual reconstructions and interactive activities, all with a scientifically rigorous and in-depth overview of how vaccines work, where they come from, how they have developed over time and how they will be able to face future health challenges through new technologies.

Chi siamo: Siena Vaccine Science Centre

The Siena Vaccine Science Center is an exhibition area with an educational aim, without any promotional or commercial purpose.

Consistent with this aim, GSK has entrusted its operational management to the Achille Sclavo E.T.S. Foundation, which is a non-profit organization and it’s engaged in solidarity and social interest activities in the field of scientific research supporting the developing countries. The Foundation acts as the main interface for schools, universities and visitors who want to access the centre.
